Coccyx Fracture or Tail bone fracture A coccyx fracture is commonly known as Tail Bone fracture a crack or break in the tailbone the small bony structure at the bottom of the spine. It commonly occurs after a direct fall onto the buttocks but can also result from childbirth or repeated pressure. Common causes: * Fall directly on the buttocks * Sports or road traffic injuries * Prolonged sitting on hard surfaces * Difficult childbirth * Repetitive trauma Symptoms: * Pain and tenderness at the tailbone * Pain while sitting especially on hard surfaces * Pain when getting up from sitting * Pain during bowel movements * Bruising or swelling around the coccyx Physiotherapy Management: Acute phase * Relative rest and activity modification * Avoid prolonged sitting * Use a coccyx cut out or wedge cushion * Ice application for pain and swelling * Gentle pain free mobility exercises Subacute phase * Gentle stretching of the hip gluteal and lower-back muscles * Pelvic mobility exercises * Gradual strengthening of the core and pelvic floor muscles * Postural and sitting education * Gradual return to normal activities Later rehabilitation * Progressive core and hip strengthening * Functional exercises such as sit to stand * Balance and movement retraining when required * Ergonomic advice for work and prolonged sitting
